Welcome! Below is a list of skills that your child will be learning this year in the library. Other skills may be taught depending on classroom needs. The CSR library currently uses the Big Six Approach to Research.
All Grades:
RCSD
Library Scope and Sequence Kindergarten / 1st Graders: Puppets, Flannel stories, basic computer introduction, parts of a book, How a book is made and what is the difference between an author and an illustrator. First graders will build upon skills learned last year and be introduced to autobiographies and beginning chapter books.
Second Graders: We will learn about chapter books, Dictionaries, How a computer works, basic Microsoft Word and where to start when researching. Students may be creating class I-spy books using the computer.
Third Graders: Third graders will learn about the history of fairy tales and create their own by playing musical computers using MS Word. In addition to dictionary review students will be introduced to encyclopedias and other exciting reference books. Basic internet research skills will be introduced starting in January.
Fourth - Sixth graders: Our intermediate students will review the steps to good research and learn about the on-line databases available to them. Safe internet searching techniques will be discussed along with how to tell the difference between fact and fiction. The year will end with some of our students creating their own PowerPoint presentations based on grade level appropriate library research.
